Job Description:
Reporting to the Assistant Director of Athletics, the Equipment & Event Operations Manager directs and manages the utilization of equipment for Intercollegiate Athletics; prepares areas (indoor and out) for practices, scheduled athletic contests, and designated special functions. This is a full-time, 40-hour a week position with a hiring range of $19-$21 an hour.
Specific Responsibilities
- Inventory, store, issue, and collect athletic/physical education equipment (includes packing of individual and team travel bags, keeping accurate up-to-date records and files).
- Adheres to OSHA requirements, and NCAA regulations with regards to equipment safety.
- Receive and verify invoices of ordered equipment upon arrival and notifies appropriate personnel.
- Assemble and repair equipment.
- Wash and dry athletic game and practice equipment items (uniforms, practice gear, socks, towels, etc.)

Prepare practice, game, intramural and instructional areas for practices, games and classes which could include the following:
- Outdoor areas: Prepare fields, transports goals, nets, pads and other team equipment to and from designated areas.
- Indoor areas: set-up and break down class and game equipment; prepares areas for participants and spectators; works with director of athletics communication on media equipment set-up.
- Perform regular inspection, maintenance and repair (within capabilities) on permanent and expendable equipment.
Follow approved procedures to safely and securely store athletic equipment, uniforms and supplies.
Prepare cost estimate for supplies and equipment required for program operations.
Compile lists for the Bursar's Office for collection of fees for damaged or lost uniforms, equipment and/or supplies.
Perform other duties as assigned or otherwise required by the nature of the position.
Abide by the code of ethics and policies set forth by McDaniel College and the NCAA.
Adhere to the policies of McDaniel College and the Department of Athletics.
Adhere to all NCAA, Centennial Conference, ECAC and sport rules and regulations.
Accomplish other duties as assigned.
Supervisor of Record
- Coordinate and supervise graduate assistant (GA) and student workers in the day-to-date performance of Equipment Room related activities and game management.
- Develop and maintain job descriptions for GA's and student workers.
- Plan, direct and assign work of assigned GA's and student workers.
- Make hiring and disciplinary GA's and student workers.
- Provide feedback on performance and approve timesheets.
Requirements:
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred.
- Previous college-level experience working with sports programs/teams is preferable.
- One or more years of related experience working with sports programs/teams required.
- Ability to organize effectively and efficiently, self-motivated and detail oriented.
- Ability to manage a flexible work week schedule including evenings and weekends.
- Demonstrated basic proficiency in using a computer, including word processing, spreadsheets, email and internet.
- Knowledge of basic budgeting and record keeping procedures.
- Valid driver's license with two or less points
Working Conditions
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is routinely working in an athletic complex with some exposure to adverse conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
Abilities/Physical Characteristics
This position requires the ability to lift, pull, push, and move objects in weight up to 50lbs regularly. Some time is spent performing manual labor. Specifically, this position requires the following.
- Ability to work in noise, heat, cold, odors, dirt, outdoor temperatures, snow.
- Ability to repetitively push and pull objects weighing up to 50lbs without assistance while kneeling, squatting, reaching above the head, the waist, and below the knees. Must be able to bend at the knees.
- Ability to repetitively push and pull equipment (for example, goals, hand truck, uniform bins ?) containing product loads a minimum of 100 yards without assistance.
- Ability to repetitively grasp and manipulate objects of varying size and weight requiring fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination.
- Ability to exert oneself physically over sustained periods to complete job activities including walking outside to all athletics facilities and back (up to three miles/day).
- Ability to stand a minimum of 6 hours during the workday.
