The mission of the NC State University Department of Athletics is to prepare student-athletes to compete at the highest level and to inspire them to be leaders now and for the future by providing the best environment to achieve their athletic, academic, and personal aspirations as well as providing support for the professional development of our coaches and staff, all within the role of the greater institutional relationships to the University. This position will work within the Facilities unit of the Athletics Department.
The Turf & Grounds Specialist works closely with the Director of Turf & Grounds to manage Athletic fields and facilities to facility standards. This includes but is not limited to; practices, games, and special events. Responsibilities include but not limited to: Provides day to day maintenance of equipment and buildings, including minor plumbing and electrical tasks. Provides extensive on-site field repair and maintenance throughout softball and baseball seasons. Involved in all aspects of facility and turf and grounds management. Responsible for managing specialized softball and baseball infields. This includes, but is not limited to, water management, specialized grooming and compaction. Also knowledgeable on the application of soil amendments and its ability to insure softball and baseball field conditions are up to the standard of a Division 1 Power 5 School. NC Pesticide Applicator license should be obtained within 1 year of employment to insure application, handling, storage and disposal meet safety standards.
Other duties as assigned by Supervisors.
Qualifications
High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Necessary Special Qualifications: North Carolina Pesticide License may be required and can be obtained within six months of employment; North Carolina Commercial Driver’s License may be required.
Good communication skills. An eye for detail and strong work ethic.
Professional experience working at Collegiate Athletic events preferred. Prior experience working with Athletic Field and Facility Management preferred.
Valid Driver’s License required. Valid NC Driver’s License required within 60 days of hire. Pesticide applicator license should be obtained within 1 year of employment.
