Position: Program Assistant for Campbell University Athletic Bands

Department: Athletics

Status: Part Time

Position Summary:

Assist the Director of Athletic Bands with coordinating recruiting initiatives, K12 outreach, and Athletic Bands alumni relations and events.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Work directly with the Director of Athletic Bands to program and logistic goals focused on:

  • Recruitment of new students
  • Community Outreach to K12 schools with planned events and performances
  • Schools/students coming to campus to perform with as part of the CU program.
  • Athletic Bands performing at schools and community.
  • Alumni outreach and engaged through planned events and performances.

• Work with the Band Directors to achieve instrumentation goals and ensemble goals (numbers) through recruiting initiatives in coordination withthe Director of Athletic Bands and CU Music faculty/staff.

  • Work with Student leadership with recruiting initiatives.
  • Calling and contacting student recruits with assigned student assistants
  • Collect recruiting information and placing data on systems for recruiting organization.
  • Organize student recruits to appropriate studio professors for recruiting.
  • Assist student recruits in ways to come to campus and experience the band program.
  • Shadow Days in coordination with Dir of Instrumental Studies
  • Campus Tours in coordination with CU admissions/CU Bands
  • Studio teachers for a possible lesson
  • Attending performances at events to observe band/student culture.

• Coordinate Alum correspondence to perform at TBD basketball games when campus is closed for students in coordination withthe Director of Athletic Bands

  • Coordinate out-reach to alumni organized by distance from campus and instrumentation.
  • Encourage alumni to participate in planned events as a performer or supporter to the program.

• Assist with coordinating recruiting displays at off campus Athletic Band events in coordination withthe Director of Athletic Bands

  • AiA Events (Winter Guard, Winter Percussion, Winter Winds)
  • TBD: Special events (conferences, event days, etc.)

• Coordinate with Directors Band-Education events in coordination withthe Director of Athletic Bands

  • Students and Band programs to come in and play at games with/a part of CU Athletic Bands
  • Organize: Appropriate Music and Arrangements, Prior Rehearsal, appropriate Campbell Wear
  • Communicate: With school directors to participate and how to prepare for the activity
  • Involvement: Lead with Directors the visiting recruits through the experience.
  • Care of Visitors: Arrange parking, entrance to game, swag, and meal if needed.

• Willing to step-in and direct the basketball pep band when needed.

  • Men’s Games
  • Women’s Games

• Assist with athletic band program logistic when needed at TBD events.

• Assist with the partnership of program logistics between Athletic Bands and the CU Instrumental Band Studies program.

• Assist in developing and refining systems to organize, communicate, and archive the activities above.

• Misc. duties called upon by the Director of Athletic Bands

• Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor at all times.

• Uphold and abide by Campbell University policies and procedures, including but not limited to Title IX, and Information Security, including but not limited to; HIPAA, FERPA and other state and federal mandates.

• Other job-related duties, responsibilities and activities may change or be assigned at any time with or without notice.

Education/Experience:

• Undergraduate degree with marching band experience.
• Previous experience in a collegiate marching band program.
• Experience in a higher education or non-profit sector desired.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Ability to communicate effectively to all groups through both oral and written channels.
• Strong interpersonal, organizational, and time management skills
• Comprehensive computer skills, with the ability to learn and utilize new and emerging technology.
• Knowledge Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint and standard methods of digital communication, including web/text/chat platforms.
• Familiarity with utilizing/administering social media platforms.
• Demonstrate tact, a positive attitude, courtesy and discretion in dealing with trustees, faculty, staff, students, high-level university officials and the public.
• Work independently as well as function effectively in a team and within a diverse group of people.
• Exercise independent judgment in complex, new, and/or stressful situations.
• Manage multiple, concurrent projects, and meet strict deadlines.
• Adaptability, flexibility and a willingness to work in a changing environment.
• Ability to work evening or weekend hours and occasional travel.
