SUMMARY:
The Department of Music at A&M-Commerce is seeking to hire an Associate Director of Bands / Director of Marching Band to start on August 1, 2024. The Band Program is a comprehensive program comprised of three Concert Ensembles, two Jazz ensembles, the “Pride” Marching Band and “Pride of the Court” Basketball Band and numerous chamber ensembles. The faculty/staff consists of the Director of Bands, Associate Director of Bands/Director of the Marching Band, Assistant Director of Bands/Asst. Director of the Marching Band, Administrative Associate for Ensembles, Band Graduate Teaching Assistants, and marching band support faculty (Marching Percussion Instructor, Color guard Instructor and Electronics specialist)
The Band Program
The “Pride” Marching Band performs at all home football games and at marching exhibitions throughout the state of Texas. Recent notable exhibitions include the Area UIL Marching Contests, the UIL State Marching Band Contest, the Bands of America Super Regional Contest in San Antonio, TX and the Bands of America Grand Nationals Contest in Indianapolis, Indiana. The “Pride” has earned a reputation across the country as a musically and visually exemplary university marching band. The Symphonic Band and Concert Band are comprised of undergraduate music and non-music majors who have demonstrated an outstanding level of musicianship and a commitment to excellence. Texas A&M University-Commerce features two Jazz Ensembles that perform two-three concerts each semester. The Wind Ensemble has performed at numerous conventions of the Texas Music Educators Association (most recently in 2018) and the College Band Directors National Association. Additional performances have included Carnegie Hall and a ten-day concert tour of Germany and Austria. The Wind Ensemble’s most recent recording projects include Convergence and Traveler.
